Q. Whom do you serve?

A.  We serve Woodward and Granger area residents. However, our volunteers may come from all over the metropolitan area, and you are not limited to receiving services in Woodward or Granger.

Q. What services do you provide?

A. Volunteer Community Services of Woodward & Granger will provide the following services, dependent upon volunteer availability:  transportation services (priority given to medical appointments), grocery shopping, errands, yard work, minor home repairs/maintenance, DME (Durable Medical Equipment) loan and personal assistance.

Q. Do you “screen” out potential clients?

A.  We do not screen anyone out because of income, age or disability, as some agencies do.  As long as a potential client is a Woodward or Granger area resident with a need we can meet and we can find a volunteer, we will serve that individual.  Several things that we do require are:

  1. Clients must be Woodward or Granger area resident, not a resident of a community with a similar service
  2. Clients must wear a seat belt while being driven by one of our volunteers
  3. Clients must refrain from smoking while in a volunteer’s car
  4. Client needs to give us 6 days’ notice of a request for service whenever possible
  5. Client needs to respond to our driver’s call for trip confirmation.  (Failure to respond or have a working voice mail may mean loss of service.)

Q. How do I sign up to receive services?

A.  Simply go to Client Resources and print out and complete the application, or

Call us at 515-999-2970 to request that an application be mailed to you. Once you have completed and returned the application, a volunteer will meet with you personally to determine how we can best serve you. That’s all there is to it!

Q. What is the procedure when I need services?

A.  Once you have completed the sign-up process and been approved and you need a service, just call our office at 515-999-2970 and tell our volunteer:

  1. What service you need
  2. When you need it (Please give us six days notice)
  3. Your name and address.

If you are requesting transportation, please tell the volunteer:

  1. Client name and address
  2. Name and address of trip destination
  3. Time of appointment (Please give us six days notice)
  4. Approximate pickup time requested
  5. Duration of appointment (if known)

The scheduling volunteer will then make the arrangements. The scheduling volunteer will call you back to give you the information, and the driver or other volunteer will also call you to introduce them self and confirm the appointment the day before the appointment.

Q. Is there any cost for your service?

A.  There is no charge for our services. Volunteer Community Services of Woodward & Granger provides these services through the generosity of volunteers and community sponsors and donors.  Our drivers are not allowed to accept tips or any reimbursement from those for whom they provide a service.  A client may wish to make a donation to VCS W-G to help defray costs.

Q. How do I become a volunteer?

A.  To become a volunteer, go to Volunteer Services page and print out and complete the application or you can call us at 515-999-2970 to request that an application be mailed to you.

We will review your application, call your references, do any background checks and schedule an interview. Following a satisfactory interview, we will provide orientation and training. We will need a copy of a current, valid driver’s license, as well as a copy of your automobile insurance card.

Q. How do I make a donation, or become a sponsor?

A.  Volunteer Community Services of Woodward & Granger relies on the generosity of its donors, sponsors and volunteers in order to serve the Woodward & Granger Communites.
